ASSOCIATION OF ZOO VETERINARY TECHNICIANS

The Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians (AZVT) is committed in all ways to conservation of species. AZVT members participate in species saving projects throughout the world. Financially, AZVT contributes to conservation through its member Grant Program and by donating to organizations that share the mission of AZVT.

"The AZVT Grant allowed me to directly interact with researchers and influence medical techniques used in the field. Some field researchers have little to no veterinary or laboratory experience and in-person training sessions can be extremely useful. I was able to make improvements to their procedures for the collection, handling, and storage of blood samples in American Black Bears which benefited both the patients and ultimately the researchers through improved data collection." - Christine Hoskinson, LVT
"Being a recipient of the AZVT Grant allowed me to travel to Africa to participate in a study of Haemoparasites in African Penguin populations in South Africa. The experience allowed me to see these amazing birds in their natural environment and really helped me to understand the challenges that these birds face in their struggle to survive in today's rapidly changing world. It was a very rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. Being an AZVT Grant recipient allowed me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the field of veterinary medicine as well as add to my value as a technician in the field of zoo medicine. AZVT Contributes To Historic Sea Turtle Rescue Effort

Zoos and wildlife rehabilitation facilities scrambled to triage, treat, and recover thousands of sea turtles in Texas and the US South in what is being called "one of the largest cold stun events in history". [Feb 2021]

AZVT sent $5,000 to aid in these collaborative relief efforts. The money was used by professionals on scene for needed items such as animal food and housing, medical supplies, and transportation of sea turtles.
