Turtle Back Zoo

The Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, NJ is seeking a full time veterinary technician. The zoo is a newly AZA accredited facility and exhibits approximately 125 species from around the world. The zoo is located in beautiful Northern New Jersey, approximately 35 minutes from Manhattan. In July 2005 the zoo opened a new 2 million dollar state of the art veterinary hospital. The veterinary technician will work with the zoo’s full time Veterinarian to manage and run the new facility in a professional and efficient manner. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting with medical procedures, monitoring anesthesia, maintaining medical and collection records, animal restraint, processing laboratory samples, caring for quarantine and sick animals, training of interns and general maintenance of the hospital facility.
Requirements: Must have either a CVT or RVT degree and at least 1 year experience or a minimum of 3 years equivalent experience. Applicants must have experience with a wide variety of species. Experience in a zoo setting is desirable. Experience with ARKS4 and MedARKS is desirable. Must have a negative TB test within the last year and a current tetanus booster. Applicants should be prepared to work in all weather conditions and must be able to meet the physical requirements. Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work days, weekends, and emergencies. Residency in Essex County is required for the successful applicant.
