Veterinary Technician
(Part-Time)

Responsibilities |
Provides husbandry and
nutritional care of all hospitalized and quarantined animals. under the
direct supervision of the veterinary services coordinator and attending
veterinarian, participates in the medical and surgical care of all
animals at ZNE and Trailside Museum and/or outside agencies. In the
absence of a veterinarian, performs triage and directs emergency care of
animals. |

Requirements |
Must be eligible for
certification as a veterinary technician, in Massachusetts and
nationally, preferably at least two years experience but new graduates
encouraged to apply. Requires working in direct contact with
dangerous/contagious animals as well as in toxic and hazardous
conditions. Must receive rabies immunizations/titers and have an
understanding of zoonotic disease risks. Able to work weekends,
holidays, overtime, as well as outside and in inclement weather when
needed. Must be able to obtain a class A firearms ID, class III drivers
license, and pass CORI screens and random drug testing. Able to lift 50
lbs. Preferable requirements: CPR certification. Knowledge of
dietary and husbandry requirements of exotic and wild animals. Knowledge
of protocols and procedures for preventative health maintenance of
captive animal collection. Knowledge of handling and use of relevant
pharmaceutical agents and their administration. Knowledge of criteria
used to judge relative health status of animals.
