In 1989, WCS developed its Field Veterinary Program—the first and largest of its kind—in response to the growing recognition of the critical role that animal health plays in both development and conservation.  Headquartered at the Bronx Zoo, the Field Veterinary Program is active in dozens of projects around the world.  The Logistics Assistant is a full-time, New York-based position.

Requirements and Qualifications: Veterinary technical skills or laboratory experience (involving the handling of biological samples); organizational and administrative experience including; data entry; familiarity with computer software programs including Microsoft Office, ARKS/ZIMS and excel; familiarity with procurement of specialized equipment.

Job Description: The primary job responsibility of the individual in this position is to provide support services for the Field Veterinary Program.  Some examples of duties:

Procurement of supplies and field equipment needed for the operations of the FVP

Management of biological sample shipment and testing, including ensuring compliance with U.S. and international regulations (e.g. CITES)

Management and tracking of permit usage and clearance; application and renewal of permits

Organization and maintenance of records on equipment, supplies, permits and scientific data from diagnostic laboratories on ARKS/ZIMS

Assistance with logistics and organization of field trips/projects

Assistance with FVP daily program functions, including administrative duties

Occasional on-site assessment/evaluation of samples (e.g. cell counts)
