Hospital Coordinator/Veterinary Technician To enable the Zoo Veterinarians to focus on the medical aspects of overseeing the health of the animal collection, the Hospital Coordinator handles most of the non-medical aspects of overseeing the Animal Health Care Center. This includes but is not limited to the following: Work schedules and payroll. Overseeing the duties of the veterinary technicians, interns, preceptors and work study students. Coordinating the AHCC volunteer program. AHCC inventory, including ordering all supplies. Monitoring the AHCC budget with the Sr. Vet, including submission of check requisitions and purchase orders. Maintaining medical records system, files and correspondence. Organizing and scheduling medical procedures in collaboration with the Veterinarians and Animal staff. Updating standard AHCC Protocols regarding record keeping, freeze/hurricane procedures, etc. Performing the duties of a veterinary technician or hospital keeper as needed. Certified Veterinary Technician, B.S. in related field, or three years experience working in a zoo veterinary hospital. Strong background in Zoo field including expertise with quarantine policies and the capture and restraint of zoo animals. Ability to direct and manage personnel and volunteers. Ability to maintain a large inventory system. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills. Strong understanding of Medical terminology. A valid Louisiana Driver's License or ability to acquire one is required. Computer proficiency. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, overtime, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Willingness to work under a variety of circumstances, occasionally lift objects up to 80 lbs., and risk periodic exposure to fairly predictable and controllable hazards associated with wild animals and zoonotic diseases.
