General Information:
Welcome to Sunny Southern California and to Fabulous L.A. where the stars don’t only come out at night. This is the 30th annual AZVT Conference. The Los Angeles Zoo is the 4th incarnation since its first inception in 1885. It’s 80 acres and over 1200 animals’ representing 350 different species is located in the U.S.’s largest municipal park known as Griffith Park. We’ll be seeing many of the highlights while you’re here including Universal Studios, Santa Monica Pier, and The Aquarium of the Pacific. You will be staying in the Heart of downtown Burbank, just a short bus ride to major TV Studios and within walking distance of great shopping. There is more to see and do here for every interest than can be accomplished in a short stay, but we will definitely do our very best to keep your interest. You might want to stay a little longer and explore our town.

Icebreaker: Aquarium of the Pacific - Long Beach
6:00 PM There are over 550 species represented among the 12,000 ocean creatures house in this 156,000 square foot facility. Take a journey of discovery through the world’s largest ocean at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. Discover sunny Southern California and Baja, the frigid waters of the North Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the Tropical Pacific. Come face-to-face with, and even touch, the ocean’s ultimate predators in Shark Lagoon.

Santa Monica Pier
7:00 PM Beautiful Santa Monica will give you a true taste of California life with more to do than can be done in a single evening. From the Playland Arcade, shops, restaurants, and Pacific Park Amusement Park which will be open until midnight on the day we are going. All of this on the backdrop of the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean. We will provide transportation but the evening will be at your own cost. There is no charge to visit the Pier or the Amusement Park but there are fees for the rides. Ends around 11pm.

Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens
8:00 AM We will begin our day at the Zoo’s Witherby Auditorium with a ½ day Conference session and Business Meeting. Following lunch we will begin Zoo and hospital behind the scenes tours as well an opportunities to tour the Zoo in your own. We are hoping to have the new Pachyderm Forest and Reptile House open by the time the Conference is here. The Campo Gorilla Reserve is also one of our newest exhibits. We will be offering tours behind Indian Rhino, Gibbons, Giraffe, Sea Life Cliffs, Great Apes as well and the Gottlieb Animal Health and Conservation Center. At the end of the day we will gather together for out Silent Auction and dinner at the Zoo courtesy of the Los Angeles Zoo and the Greater Los Angeles Zoological Society.

Banquet
5:30 PM We will begin in the Hotels main private dining room for dinner and then proceed upstairs to the Crystal View lounge on the top floor of the Hotel for drinks/dancing and maybe a few surprises as the evening rolls on. The Crystal View offers a wonderful atmosphere and a beautiful after dark view of the lights of Burbank and the San Fernando Valley.

Any reservations made after the cutoff date are subject to regular rates and availability.
Our Hotel is the Downtown Burbank Media Center Holiday Inn.
Reservations must be made by September 30th to receive the conference rate. The conference rate is also only good for the dates of the conference. Reservations must be made by calling the local hotel phone number at above; mention that you are with the Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians. It will not work on the Holiday Inn Website.
Check in at 3pm and check out at 12 noon.
Parking:
Parking is free for hotel guests. Visitors and extra vehicles must pay normal parking fees for the hotel parking structure.

Airport:
We Strongly recommend flying into the Burbank (Bob Hope) Airport (BUR). Although the cost can be higher than flying into Los Angeles International (LAX), it can be a very time consuming and expensive journey from LAX to the hotel taking anywhere from 1 to 2 hours in traffic. The Holiday Inn offers free shuttle service from the Burbank Airport (6am to midnight).
